ALBUM REVIEW: Letters and Drinks - Jae Jin

I'm always on the lookout for new music and artists, and I recently discovered an artist by the name of Jae Jin. He is a Korean-American artist who is currently based in Los Angeles. I first discovered his music through a song suggestion on Spotify - namely, "Wild Creatures." After listening to the moving and vividly painted lyrics, I was hungry for more.

Jae recently released his newest album, called Letters and Drinks, which came out on June 29th. In Jae's words, this album is "centered on the universal concepts of love and suffering, but in a raw, unique, and authentic way." I immensely enjoyed this album, especially the following tracks:

Gonna Be Honest
11:11
Six Feet Above
Heart Smiles
Book in the Cloud
One Last Light

Now, for the album review:

Gonna Be Honest  - "What if we took chances at love? Where would you and I be right now?" This song addresses the possible future someone could have had if they took a chance at love, if they had made a different decision or if the timing was "right".

11:11  - Have you ever fell in love, and imagined or believed in someone as your true love? This song perfectly captures this sentiment. It is a sweet ballad which expresses the desire to be with someone who feels "right", someone who is the answer to all your prayers.

Six Feet Above - This heart-wrenching song deals with the loss of a loved one, especially by suicide. Jae wrestles with the loss of a dear friend, with the words "if only we had more time, if I could change your mind." When I heard this song for the first time, I was moved to tears.

Heart Smiles - This track has a whimsical feel to it, and an equally catchy chorus. My favorite phrase in this song is "you hold on to my hand with your level-headed heart, barely holding onto time as it moves us apart." This song perfectly describes the power of loving someone selflessly.

Book in the Cloud - Our words and actions speak for themselves, and provide a window to others about ourselves. Here, Jae pokes fun at different social media sites and apps, and how our perceptions of ourselves and others are formed.

One Last Light - It is a pensive, acoustic track highlighting Jae's struggles with depression. Knowing that this track would've been his farewell letter tugs at one's heartstrings.

In conclusion, Jae Jin's album Letters and Drinks showcases his versatility as an artist, both in his musical styles and in his songwriting.
