“I went to England for a couple of days.”
“For work?”
With a shy smile on his face, he replied
“No…actually I’m seeing someone.”

Fast forward a couple of months…

They came out of the airport
with huge smiles,
despite the frigid air.
He had his arm around her
while hers was draped around his waist
One arm carrying her bags, while the other
was wrapped tightly around her,
shielding her from the chilly winter air.
Although she was tired from the flight
her smile grew bigger
as she approached her best friend
and their shared group of friends.

As he waited nervously for her arrival
he was accompanied by his brother and their friends
His brother, who was on the lookout for the lovely lady
turned to him and exclaimed, “ Yo, I see her!”
As his and her eyes met,
she ran at full speed into his arms.
Her arms around his neck, and his around her waist.

There was nothing 5713 km of distance could do to their love.

Daniel Wu - A man of wit and intelligence

Although the premise of this video is a Seiko watch ad, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his interview . It is often said that "an intelligent person will open the mind", and I believe this is true in the case of Daniel Wu, an American-Born-Chinese actor currently living in Hong Kong.

Here is the interview link on YouTube:

Why are pets so cheap?!

Out of curiosity, I checked out Petsmart's website a few days ago. I took a look at the different animals they sell, and I noticed that these animals were sold at ridiculously cheap prices! For example, three mice were sold for $5 (it doesn't help that they were advertised as "fancy" mice)! In addition, betta fish were sold for $14.99....

I always thought that pets would cost a fortune ( partially because I've never had a pet as a kid) BUT, hear me out on this one. My theory is, from the moment we pay the cashier for our pet, we are immediately responsible for its needs-its physical, emotional, and mental state, food, shelter, water, time, love, attention, and care. Shouldn't they be more expensive if we're taking care of its needs for its lifespan; for all its memories throughout its life? Why and how are we stripping all of these factors and reducing its price./cost to less than $20?! If it's a life-long commitment, shouldn't it be receiving more care and money devoted to its well-being?

That would be akin to taking away newborn babies (or babies that re only a few months old) away from their mothers, and selling them to others, then placing a price tag on its life for less than $100?!

Okay, I digress, that would only happen in a paranoid, dystopian society..but still, it's a valid argument.

I am baffled.

An insightful read for anyone and everyone in the workforce

I came across this article while surfing on Facebook (okay, I admit - I still use facebook), A friend of mine had commented on a link that her friend posted on her wall. The title of the article piqued my interest, and now I'm sharing it with you!

Monthly Music Favorites

Hello! I haven't given an update in a while, but here it is!
Here are my music favorites for July:
War- Jay Sean
Tears In The Ocean  (Candle Light Mix)

Enjoy the rest of your day!

World Traveller

I excitedly grabbed your hand
gently pulling you away from the crowd
eager to hear your stories;
your travels around the world.

As I asked you about each country you visited,
your eyes lit up and the corners of your mouth were upturned
ready to share every detail with an inquiring mind.

As your mother called you over,
“We’re leaving now!”
Tears filled up my eyes and I asked,
“When will I see you again?”
As we stood up for an embrace
we exchanged sad smiles.
Before I walked away, I mouthed
“I’ll miss you.”

Wherever you are now
 please be safe
have fun
and be assured that you will always
have a special place in my heart.

When faced with opposition and cruel remarks...

don't be bitter, be better. I've learned this lesson very recently, and I intend to keep these as words to live by. When someone doubts your abilities or capabilities, take this as an opportunity to excel their expectations and prove them wrong.

1. Life should be a series of little adventures.
2. Strip your layers of vulnerability and refine them to make you a better person.

She Was Selfless...

She was selfless;
the type to reach out,
helping anyone in need.
She jumped to the aid
of family and friends,
imparting love in every direction.
But she did not leave
any love for herself
and so she withered
like a plant without water.

A Walk To Remember

I finally watched it! This movie had been on my list of movies to watch for a while now. I decided to watch it as soon as I had finished my exams; to relax from a busy semester.

VERDICT: Mandy Moore has the voice of an angel, and Shane West looked good. It was a sweet love story.

I had known Shane West from the TV series Nikita with Maggie Q and Xander Berkeley. Thus, when I saw him in A Walk To Remember, I exclaimed: Hey, it's Michael! Minus 10 years of course..." My favorite part of the movie is near the beginning when a group of boys bother Jamie ( Mandy Moore's character) "Well, if there's a higher power, then why hasn't he gotten you a new sweater?" Her reply is priceless: "He's too busy looking for your brain."

P.S. I've wanted to add A Walk To Remember to my growing collection of books on my shelf..and I'm getting my copy tomorrow!

Monthly Music Favorites

Here are my favorites for the month of April:

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.
-Pablo Neruda

X (Multiply)

I bought Ed Sheeran's most recent album X (Multiply)!!
I enjoyed all the songs on the album (which is why I saved the album on Spotify) so I decided to add it to my growing collection of albums :)

What a steal!

At the beginning of the week, a group of students held a week-long gently - used book sale. The book sale was held in the corridor just outside of the library. The large tables with a plethora of books caught my eye, so I perused their vast array of books.

I was able to buy two novels; Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks , each for a dollar. What a steal!

I had read Water for Elephants a while ago. Since I immensely enjoyed reading the novel, I knew I just had to add it to my growing collection of novels! As for At First Sight, it was bought on a whim (LOL). I glanced at the cover and thought it was pretty so I read the excerpt at the back of the novel. The excerpt drew me in, thus, I decided to buy it!

That night, my sister exclaimed
"Look up at the sky!"
Raising my eyes toward the sky
tilting my head upwards
A smile slowly spreads across my face.
I see the glimmering lights of the stars
and as I closed the storm door for the night,
I gaze at the stars one last time.

Never has a quote resonated within me so deeply.

If you find yourself in Hapjeong and are in the mood for flowers, jewelry, or candles, Your Public Oasis is an adorable store filled with pretty little things. I bought a soy candle called “rose duet” that smells amazing and has a wooden wick that makes the perfect little crackling noise.

Plus they stapled a leaf to my bag and who doesnt want that?!

The value of CDs

Up until recently, I never had an immense interest in collecting CDs. However, I realized the practical value of collecting them recently. Roughly a month ago, I sat with a friend in his car after eating dinner with a bunch of friends. While driving back to my house, he played an album from one of his favorite artists. It wasn't until later that night, did I realize how convenient it is to have a collection of CDs to play at anytime, anywhere.

I'm also grateful for the large collection of CDs my parents have built up over the years. And on Saturday, I bought my first CD, a copy of Maroon 5's debut album, Songs About Jane (also one of my favorite albums). I hope to add to my collection of albums in the coming years.

Albums I'd love to add to my collection include:
The Element of Freedom - Alicia Keys
X - Ed Sheeran
Foreword EP- Tori Kelly
How To Save A Life- The Fray

Humans of New York

I've been following an account called Humans of New York, informally known as HONY for a about 2 years now. HONY's photographer, Brandon Stanton delves into the lives of passerby on the streets of New York, thus personifying the word sonder.

Four days ago he interviewed a young man living in Brownsville, Brooklyn, unknowingly sparking a fire that has brought people from all over the world together towards a united goal. Here is the first post:

Yesterday, Brandon met the woman who has been an influential figure to this young man's life. Her attitude and faith towards these kids has been heartwarming. Here is her interview:

Since yesterday, Brandon and fans of HONY were able to raise enough money to achieve Ms. Lopez's dreams for her scholars. Here is the post:

Ms. Lopez's final request is that her scholars are also provided with a summer program. Here is the link:

If possible, please donate and if not, please spread the word (:

Have a great day.

Instagram Inspiration!

A few days ago,  I found this nugget of wisdom from a photographer whose handle is @une.debille. Here is her quote: "Les plus faibles se vengent, les plus forts pardonnent, les plus heureux oublient."

English translation: The weak take revenge, the strongest forgive and the happiest forget."

To all poets and Ed Sheeran fans

This tumblr post made my day.

^In all seriousness, it's a brilliant idea.

A Plea to the Broken Soul

I can’t bear to see you hurting deep down inside,
I can’t afford to watch you helplessly from the sidelines,
watching you break down after staying strong for so long
only to collapse of an overdose of stress and guilt.
My heart starts to grow heavy,
groaning, wishing that I could do something to help
I'd wipe your tears, give you an embrace
filled with all the love I have for you
because your pain is my pain.

And I can’t afford to lose you.

When you feel that all hope is lost...

This afternoon I stumbled upon a beautiful quote from a photographer on Instagram whose handle is @bleachfilm. Here is the quote: "The moment you realize your bones are made of the same dust as the planets, your lungs are breathing the same air as migrating butterflies, and your blood is pumping because of the love and care of thousands. Then is when you realize that you are not as broken as you think you are. You are full of the world ♥️."

If you check his Instagram account, the quote should be found under his most recent post, the picture of a guy and a girl as shadows standing in front of a pink- y, orangeish sunset.

" I am not dating a racial slur."

While looking through my Facebook feed a few days ago, one of my friends shared this article with me. Intrigued by the title, I clicked the link and read the aforementioned article :

My verdict? Ashlyn is a brave young woman who is always ready to defend her loved ones. It also made me think about the difficulties/assumptions/stereotypes directed towards interracial relationships. I also read an article written on Huffpost and the author's experience as a half of an interracial couple ( Asian Male White Female). Here are the links:

Fixed mindset vs Growth mindset

Interesting article I read over the weekend. It raises the question: if a child is innately "smart", should we be showering them with praise or not?

"Yeah God love your soul and your aching bones. Take a breath, take a step, meet me down below. Everyone's the same, our fingers to our toes. "

All Fall Down- OneRepublic

I fell in love with the message of these lyrics. Although these words are simple, they mean a great deal to me. It is a promise that no matter how much one is suffering, there is always someone who can understand and is willing to help.

"If I can't do great things, I can do small things in a great way."- Martin Luther King

On Instagram, I follow a photography account called Humans of New York, also known as HONY. HONY's photographer, Brandon Stanton travels around New York City, exploring the lives and the stories of the civilians he meets everyday. One of his posts yesterday stood out in my mind. Here is the link:

One person who commented on the photo quoted Martin Luther King, who once said: "If I can't do great things, I can do small things in a great way." Once I read their comment, I knew I had to share it!

I'd like to give a shoutout to the person who quoted MLK and HONY photographer, Brandon Stanton!

Summer Wishes

Written in September of 2014

Take me to a beach where I can have sand
in between my toes, collect seashells and
swim in the clear blue waters while
I play in the sun all day.
Beautiful weather, sun in my sunglasses,
a sun dress, maybe a floppy hat
while I fill up jars with seashells
without a care in the world.
A place where I can take
photos of the sunrise, sunset and the palm trees

A Mother's Love

This one was written in December of 2014. Inspired by a classmate with a young son.

When asked about her son
her facial expression changed drastically
A smile spreads across her face,
her cheeks turn a rosy red
and her eyes light up.
The aura surrounding her
is of joy and happiness.
Bubbling forth with pride,
she recounts stories and tales
about her son
and how much happiness he has brought into her life.
A mother's love is like no other;
one of a kind
