as we engage in conversation,
i see the sadness in your eyes.
you hunch your shoulders
and lean forward.
you tell me
a little-known fact about you
only known by a select few.
i give you a nod of understanding
along with a sad smile.
i save it and keep it in my heart.

Snakes & Lattes

Last weekend, I went to a board games café called Snakes & Lattes in downtown Toronto with a bunch of friends. Snakes & Lattes opened its doors in the fall of 2010 as the first board games café in North America.

Once you enter the cafe, you will see a myriad of board games inside 2 large bookshelves on your immediate left and right. There is another large bookshelf housing an assortment of board games at the other end of the café. Once you walk past the front desk, there are large and small tables for groups to sit and enjoy food and drinks, which can be ordered from your seat, using the menus on the table.

I ordered a flat white to drink while playing with friends. Since it was my first time trying a flat white, I was excited to try something new. I enjoyed the taste of the espresso, mixed with the smooth and creamy micro foam.

We played three games: Concept, Apples to Apples, and Superfight. Of the three games, I enjoyed Superfight the most. I jokingly told a friend that Superfight would be the perfect cure for writer’s block.

All in all, I had a fun night with my friends in a cozy environment. I highly recommend going to Snakes & Lattes if you’re looking for a place to hang out during the fall and winter. Here is the location I went to:

Thanks for reading! :)

September 2016 Calendar

I recently downloaded a cute and creative calendar from one of my favorite bloggers, Gabrielle, founder of the blog Monochrome Caffeine. She is a graphic designer and lifestyle blogger who is currently based in Pittsburgh, PA. She has recently started sharing her designs, including calendars and is also open for graphic design or stationery commissions. Links to her blog, calendars and Behance profile will be included below.

Autumn's Serenade

You can hear the sparks
crisply crackling through the wood
carried by the breeze of the night.
Marshmallows roasting, their scent
wafting in the air, paired with
the musky scent of fresh rain, leaves on the ground
and the silence which surrounds it.

Laying on the back of a lawn chair
with its sturdy material cushioning you
from the wet ground, its legs holding you up.

You inhale the air
the smell of s'mores and
the musky after- rain scent
lull you into a calm state of mind.
Surrounded by friends
around a bonfire
its radiance and warmth
reflect your emotions at this very moment,
of happiness, peace and contentment.

Thought Catalog

I first learned about this site through my sister. One day, she told me about an article that she had read on Thought Catalog. I listened attentively to what was written in the article, yet I didn't pay too much attention to the website itself.

After a couple of months, I started to notice that articles from Thought Catalog kept popping up on my Facebook feed. I read each article intently, hungry for well-written pieces by articulate individuals. Eventually, I stopped using Facebook altogether, except for Facebook Messenger.

Thought Catalog is a website where others write short stories/articles on a variety of topics, ranging from love to self confidence, to current news. Or anything and everything.

Here are a few of my favorite articles from Thought Catalog:

55 Tiny But Important Things You Should Start Doing For Yourself Today - Becca Martin

How To Kick Ass At Being Single AF - Lauren Jarvis-Gibson

19 Ways To Love Yourself - Chelsea Fagan
