Humans of New York

I've been following an account called Humans of New York, informally known as HONY for a about 2 years now. HONY's photographer, Brandon Stanton delves into the lives of passerby on the streets of New York, thus personifying the word sonder.

Four days ago he interviewed a young man living in Brownsville, Brooklyn, unknowingly sparking a fire that has brought people from all over the world together towards a united goal. Here is the first post:

Yesterday, Brandon met the woman who has been an influential figure to this young man's life. Her attitude and faith towards these kids has been heartwarming. Here is her interview:

Since yesterday, Brandon and fans of HONY were able to raise enough money to achieve Ms. Lopez's dreams for her scholars. Here is the post:

Ms. Lopez's final request is that her scholars are also provided with a summer program. Here is the link:

If possible, please donate and if not, please spread the word (:

Have a great day.

Instagram Inspiration!

A few days ago,  I found this nugget of wisdom from a photographer whose handle is @une.debille. Here is her quote: "Les plus faibles se vengent, les plus forts pardonnent, les plus heureux oublient."

English translation: The weak take revenge, the strongest forgive and the happiest forget."

To all poets and Ed Sheeran fans

This tumblr post made my day.

^In all seriousness, it's a brilliant idea.

A Plea to the Broken Soul

I can’t bear to see you hurting deep down inside,
I can’t afford to watch you helplessly from the sidelines,
watching you break down after staying strong for so long
only to collapse of an overdose of stress and guilt.
My heart starts to grow heavy,
groaning, wishing that I could do something to help
I'd wipe your tears, give you an embrace
filled with all the love I have for you
because your pain is my pain.

And I can’t afford to lose you.

You're beautiful.

@MalloryCha: Constantly reminding myself that just because I see someone pretty doesn't mean I'm ugly

^This tweet speaks volumes.

Have a great day :)

When you feel that all hope is lost...

This afternoon I stumbled upon a beautiful quote from a photographer on Instagram whose handle is @bleachfilm. Here is the quote: "The moment you realize your bones are made of the same dust as the planets, your lungs are breathing the same air as migrating butterflies, and your blood is pumping because of the love and care of thousands. Then is when you realize that you are not as broken as you think you are. You are full of the world ♥️."

If you check his Instagram account, the quote should be found under his most recent post, the picture of a guy and a girl as shadows standing in front of a pink- y, orangeish sunset.

" I am not dating a racial slur."

While looking through my Facebook feed a few days ago, one of my friends shared this article with me. Intrigued by the title, I clicked the link and read the aforementioned article :

My verdict? Ashlyn is a brave young woman who is always ready to defend her loved ones. It also made me think about the difficulties/assumptions/stereotypes directed towards interracial relationships. I also read an article written on Huffpost and the author's experience as a half of an interracial couple ( Asian Male White Female). Here are the links:

Many people have this mindset:

(the first half of the sentence). But I beg to differ- I want to expand my knowledge and skills. Most importantly, I want to cherish every day that I have. I want to live.

Fixed mindset vs Growth mindset

Interesting article I read over the weekend. It raises the question: if a child is innately "smart", should we be showering them with praise or not?

The link is found here:

*smart is a subjective word, it should be used with caution

"Yeah God love your soul and your aching bones. Take a breath, take a step, meet me down below. Everyone's the same, our fingers to our toes. "

All Fall Down- OneRepublic

I fell in love with the message of these lyrics. Although these words are simple, they mean a great deal to me. It is a promise that no matter how much one is suffering, there is always someone who can understand and is willing to help.

"If I can't do great things, I can do small things in a great way."- Martin Luther King

On Instagram, I follow a photography account called Humans of New York, also known as HONY. HONY's photographer, Brandon Stanton travels around New York City, exploring the lives and the stories of the civilians he meets everyday. One of his posts yesterday stood out in my mind. Here is the link:

One person who commented on the photo quoted Martin Luther King, who once said: "If I can't do great things, I can do small things in a great way." Once I read their comment, I knew I had to share it!

I'd like to give a shoutout to the person who quoted MLK and HONY photographer, Brandon Stanton!

"Love is an act of endless forgiveness"

A tweet by the lovely @therealkimj on twitter :

A quote that everyone can relate to, regardless of social or economic status. In other words, a universal truth.

Summer Wishes

Written in September of 2014

Take me to a beach where I can have sand
in between my toes, collect seashells and
swim in the clear blue waters while
I play in the sun all day.
Beautiful weather, sun in my sunglasses,
a sun dress, maybe a floppy hat
while I fill up jars with seashells
without a care in the world.
A place where I can take
photos of the sunrise, sunset and the palm trees

A Mother's Love

This one was written in December of 2014. Inspired by a classmate with a young son.

When asked about her son
her facial expression changed drastically
A smile spreads across her face,
her cheeks turn a rosy red
and her eyes light up.
The aura surrounding her
is of joy and happiness.
Bubbling forth with pride,
she recounts stories and tales
about her son
and how much happiness he has brought into her life.
A mother's love is like no other;
one of a kind
