ALBUM REVIEW: Right Through Me - DAY6 (Even of Day)

DAY6 (Even of Day) is back with their second unit album, called "Right Through Me". The title of the album is inspired by events or words that have had a significant impact on Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon's lives. For Young K, it was the precious advice that his dad had told him, and the unwavering support of My Days (the fans). For Wonpil, it was the fulfillment of his dreams - from joining JYP (the company), meeting his fellow members, and My Days' love and support. For Dowoon, it is the cherished friendships with his high school friends who genuinely care for him, the wise advice from his friend's dad, and My Days, who mean so much to him.

I personally loved this album, it has the signature DAY6 sound that is both familiar and comforting. Now, let's delve into the 7 tracks of the album.

1. WE

WE starts off with electronic beats, with the bass and drum coming in during the pre-chorus. The song closes out with its trademark electronic beats, heavily prevalent in their debut album.  "Sometimes we fall, and then we rise" is the motto as this track takes us through a journey of an anxious mind and heart, and how it strives to see the bright light at the end of the metaphorical tunnel.

2. Right Through Me (title track / single)

Right Through Me opens with electronic beats, which then pave the way for a harmonious melody between the electric guitar, drums, and keyboard. A common theme in DAY6's music is their ability to eloquently tell stories, especially those that center around earnest efforts and the following heartbreak. My favourite line is, "Even if I leave, you would never blink an eye."

3. WALK

WALK starts off with an upbeat poppy beat. The overall melody is minimalistic, but it works well to highlight the power of the guitar, keyboard, and drums. My favourite part of the song is the a capella part. Its upbeat melody is similar to a previous DAY6 track, "Time of Our Life".

4. all the things you wanted

"All The Things You Wanted" starts off with a keyboard melody from Wonpil. It has an old-time, nostalgic feel to it. Regret and anguish has never been written about so beautifully.

5. from the ending of a tragedy

"From the Ending of A Tragedy" is written with sentiments of anguish, pushing others away so that the other person can be happy. It expresses well-wishes for the other person, in sincere belief that the other person will be happier without them.

6. Home Alone

Home Alone has a feel reminiscent of DAY6's track, "Days Gone By". Alas, a happy song amidst the sea of sad ones. It is a guide of how to enjoy your own company.

7. LOVE PARADE

LOVE PARADE is a nice way to wrap up this musical journey. It expresses the desire to live in a way that is authentic on a personal level. It paints a bright and hopeful picture, filled with possibilities that are endless.

In summary, Right Through Me is an album that I will be listening to non-stop for the next little while. In addition, Even Of Day is promoting their album on music shows now. You can check out their performance stages on YouTube for their title track Right Through Me and their b-side track WALK. You can also find their album on Spotify, Apple Music, Melon, and Bugs.
